Kobold Quarterly just posted an interview they did with me a while back. Check it out!

No Origins

So, after many years of attending the Origins Game-Fair in Columbus, OH, I won’t be going this year: time and money just do not allow for it. Green Ronin will be ably represented by Art Director Hal Mangold, with products available from Adventure Retail (Booth #133). I am planning on attending GenCon in Indianapolis in August (as this will be my 21st GenCon and my 20th in an unbroken streak — don’t want to miss that).

My apologies to convention attendees and my various friends in Columbus; I’m sorry I’m not going to be seeing you. Have some extra fun this week on my behalf!
All packed up and set to head off tomorrow to the Burlington, Vermont, area for the Northeast Wars convention. I attended last year and it’s a nice little con. I’m slated to run some M&M games, do a seminar, and a podcast interview. This year’s con is held at a hotel associated with the New England Culinary Institute, so there should be some good eats to go along with the weekend of geekery.
I turn to the collective wisdom of my friends-list and readers for suggestions: what provider and proceedure do you recommend for registering a domain name?

Right now, I’ve got stevekenson.com registered through Register.com, but it’s coming up for renewal and I’ve got the vague, unconfirmed feeling that I could do better in terms of my registration. Any suggestions?

Apparently, due to a glitch of some sort, they’ve had to re-start voting for the ENWorld Awards. So if you voted on Monday or Tuesday, you might want to go to the site to register your votes again.

So voting in the ENWorld Awards (the “ENnies”) is now open. The ENnies take place at GenCon each year, and have become the major de facto industry awards (in my opinion) in fairly short order.

Green Ronin is nominated in several categories:

• Best Cover Art: Pirate’s Guide to Freeport
• Best Cartography: Pirate’s Guide to Freeport
• Best Setting: Pirate’s Guide to Freeport
• Best Supplement: Hero High (for Mutants & Masterminds)
• Best Reglia: Hobby Games: The 100 Best
• Best d20/OGL Product: True20 Freeport Companion
• Product of the Year: Pirate’s Guide to Freeport
• Fan’s Choice, Best Publisher: Green Ronin Publishing

You can vote from today until Wednesday, August 6th. Best of luck to the nominees and thanks to everyone who has supported us!

So today is Free RPG Day, a game industry promotion based on the comics industry’s successful Free Comic Book Day promo. Publishers create sample products, which are distributed to participating game stores and given away, allowing gamers and would-be gamers the opportunity to try out some new things, find out what’s out there, and learn about what’s in the works.

Green Ronin’s contribution is our A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying Quick-Start; a complete (abbreviated) set of rules, sample characters, and a short adventure for playing SIFRP. (It’ll also be available as a free PDF on our website sometime in the next couple weeks.)

Check out the list of participating stores to find one near you and check out the various offerings. Chances are you might find a fun new game or product you didn’t know about!
A screenshot of somebody playing the Centurion in City of Heroes. He’s a character I created as one of the iconic heroes of Freedom City, who appears on the cover of the second edition of Mutants & Masterminds. (Although renowned as the greatest hero of the setting, Centurion died saving the world years ago, in the scene depicted on the cover. Unlike most comic book heroes, he has stayed dead, leaving room for some new heroes in the setting.)

Moments like this make me happy with my job.
Plans are set for me to make my record fourth trip to Ohio this year for Con on the Cob in Akron, November 8-11. (For those keeping score at home, the other three were Pagan Spirit Gathering in June, Origins in July, and Between the Worlds in September; airport visits don’t count.)

I’m running various Green Ronin related events at the con, mainly as part of the “Massive Mutants & Masterminds Mega-Meet”. I’m sure there will also be much assorted geekery, some business-related talk and, you know, drinking and stuff. If you’re in the area, feel free to come on by and say hi.
We’re headed to the airport and thence to Indianapolis for GenCon. There may be blogging from there, or not, we’ll see. Either way, be back Monday. See ya then!

For anyone on my friends-list who expressed interest in a day (or two) at Origins next week (Thursday the 5th through Sunday the 8th), the one-day registration is $35, the full show is $70. Green Ronin will be booth #1002, which is where I’ll be a lot of the time when I’m not off running stuff.
Ha! Wrote just over 6,000 words today, finishing up a project I was behind on. That’s not even counting various e-mails, blog posts, and stuff like that. However, my right wrist is starting to ache something fierce, so I think I need both a new mouse pad with a wrist rest and a break.

Other accomplishments today include helping my parents move their stove, fridge, and assorted bathroom fixtures now that their new floors are in. Kind of glad I skipped the gym this morning, otherwise I’d be really beat. Time to call it a day. Tomorrow, Christopher and I are having lunch with friends we haven’t seen in a while, which I’m really looking forward to.

Okay, no more typing for me...
Pretty busy but I just wanted to post to observe the irony of me skipping out on gaming night tonight in order to try and stay current on work... writing games. Noted RPG (and novel) author Aaron Allston was right, if you ever want to quit playing RPGs, start writing them...

The cover for the M&M Beginner's Guide is up on the Green Ronin catalog page, meaning the covers of all the forthcoming products in the catalog are up. The Beginner's Guide goes on sale at NY Comic Con, which I'm driving down to the day after Christopher and I get back from PantheaCon and DunDraCon in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Was planning a day out at the "mobile office" today: taking my laptop and just getting out of the house for a while, but circumstances have scuttled that plan. Had a scratchy throat last night and this morning I was drowsy, warm, and achy and had a difficult time waking up. So I think I'm moving things to the "soft office," as Christopher calls it when he works sitting up in bed. I'm going to get another mug of tea, some juice, and my laptop and get down to it.
