How Many...?

In fixing and reorganizing my bookshelf, I must ask myself, "Good gods, how many RPG books does one person need?"

From personal experience, the number must be between 50 and 150.

Then I've got some work to do, since I'd estimate (at a rough guess) that I've got nearly a thousand (give or take a hundred).

Within the hour, I will be moving our entire game room/library contents to a new home on the opposite side of the house. I'm sure I'll ask that same question many times:)

I think they always need at least 10 more than they currently have, and should plan accordingly.

I think you need just a few more.

Doesnt sound like you have enough

My vote is that you move them next to the liquor cabinent.
Also, i'm curious, how many dice and little metal people do you have?

Dice? Two sets of polyhedrals (six diceL 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 20), a few extra d20s (cuz of M&M and True20), handfuls of d10s (for Storyteller games like Aberrant and Exalted), a fair number of d6s (mostly from my Champions and Shadowrun playin' days), and a set of Fudge Dice (http://www.warehouse23.com/item.html?id=GGG9020MC).

Miniatures? Basically none. Oh, I've got a few I've gotten as gifts and freebies, all still in the original packaging and unused. I've never really used minis in playing RPGs. I do have a box full of plastic Mage Knight and HeroClix (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/) figures, though.

wow, is that it? I was expecting something a bit more... spectacular. Careful, the D&D geeks will revoke your membership privileges. *wink*
Have a wonderful, productive day steve.

Umm, all of them?

I used to number close to two thousand but it's just too many. I've really gotten rid of a lot of books this year. I think the number a person needs is not important. I look at it as I need a few good games and the books to make those games enjoyiable.,

Well, I don't think that's really a quantifiable thing... The real question is, how many of those RPG books do you need? My long-time DM has been reducing his collection (which also reached the shelf-collapse point) by selling some that he's not likely to reference or play on E-bay. He uses the proceeds, naturally, to buy new and different RPG books.

All of them, of course.

The answer is "More"
