Brigadoon

We're home. We traveled through day, through mist, and through the long, dark hours of night, a seemingly endless, timeless journey to return to the ordinary world we know. The long night of Brigadoon is over, and that fabled place has faded once more into the mists for another year, until it appears again and we return home to it.

Describing the experience of Between the Worlds is difficult. To paraphrase an old saying: if you have not been a part of its magic, ten thousand words are not enough to capture it. If you have, then even one word is too much. Sufficient to say there was much magic, laughter, celebration, and brotherhood; old friends greeted warmly, new friends embraced like they had always been there; new paths opened, old ones laid to rest, much to consider, and many, many memories to treasure.

I began reading livejournals for two reasons: first, to keep up with scattered friends and associates in the RPG industry and, second, to stay in touch with my far-flung brothers from Between the Worlds. In the days to come, I hope to cast the web of friendship we have woven even wider to maintain those connections across the miles, and across the days and weeks ahead, until the time comes once again when the mists part, our paths cross, and we meet again in that fabled place, feeling like we'd never parted, and say to each other, "Welcome home."

Wow, the same imagery of Brigadoon came to me last night. I was thinking of how skeptical I was of this event before I arrived last Wodnesdaeg. At the time I was seriously considering blowing it off.

Now I want to go back. But it isn't there anymore.

It's going to be a long year...

It was very cool seeing you again at BTW. As always it was an incredible time of brotherhood. You're right about the magic there. Now if we could only use that time of magic and spread to the rest of the gay community. How wonderful that we have a place like that.

It will and it won't. If last year is any indication, the soul-deep longing slowly fades as life's routines reassert themselves. Then a slow buildup of anticipation in the months before as the gathering draws near and, before you know it, you're there again looking at the familiar places and faces, and it's like you never left, and the year that passed was only a moment.

... and then the gathering is past, and it's time to do it all over again.

I welcome being caught in your web. Um. Of friendship.

Brigadoon is a wonderful metaphor, but a terrible Broadway Musical.

Smiles and bright blessings!

Quill.

I'm so glad you and Christopher were able to come back (tent and all). We count you both as good friends and are constantly thankful for your presence and communitarian energy.

A year seems like forever when you're wanting the experience, but it never seems enough when you're planning and executing it. Believe me, it will pass before you know it.

Love and Blessings,
Garan du

*HUG* I had no idea you were here, but it's good to see you. The Brigadoon Night is seemingly forever, but you have a fabulous little purple reminder to keep with you at all times to remind you that this night, like all others, will come to an end.

It was good to see you again, brother. :)

Gods... I wish I hadn't missed it...
