Another good episode leading up to the season finale. I like the fact that I genuinely don't know how it's all going to end: they really could blow up half of New York City and then deal with the aftermath in the coming season(s), at least, it feels like they could, which is a good thing. The episode also did a good job of humanizing Syler and the scenes with his mother were chilling, especially the foreshadowing ("You could even be President..." etc. What parent hasn't held onto that dream for their kid?). Hiro continues to be my favorite character, appealing to the geek wannabe superhero in all of us. The "He forgot [killing] should be hard" line about Future-Hiro was great. Looking forward to the big finale, although not to the likely cliffhanger and waiting for the next season.

I love that my mother is a time zone behind me. I had to call her just after I watched the episode and tell her "It's always the mother's fault. Now go watch the episode"

I'm not sure how painful the cliffhanger will be. The creators seem to be aiming for season arcs, as in today's TV world, you can't be sure you'll get another season and ending the show on a cliffhanger really sucks.

I'd have to do some digging to find the interview quotes, but I've heard/read this straight from the creators, as well. Specifically I've heard that "the bomb will be resolved in Season 1" and that Season 2 will pick up another major threat/storyline.

I hope that is true. The show seems to be doing well enough that they don't need a classic cliffhanger ending to get people to watch it next season. Plus it seems like a good counter to the long drawn out storyline angst some people are feeling with Lost.

However, I also try to avoid those interviews because Tim Kring has also blabbed a bit about Sylar's fate at the end of Season 1 (which I won't pass on, of course) and I hate having those things spoiled.

But, yeah, it's rare to have good stories that walk that fine line between being cliche enough that you know every detail of the end before you're even half-way through, and the other extreme of keeping you guessing so much that you wind up having no idea what's even going on as you watch it. The closer we get, the more I wonder if New York really will still get nuked.

That "he forgot..." line really showed some excellent depth to Hiro. I liked that. And I think that Adrian Pasdar is my favorite actor on the show. Nathan's shown excellent depth in the recent eps, and Mr Pasdar is doing a wonderful job of conveying nuance in his performance.

I'm excited to see how they end the season.

I agree. Pasdar does a very good (and scary) Syler in "Five Years Gone" such that I recognized the mannerisms before he revealed who he really was.

I think they should have cast Amanda Plumber for Sylar's mom... it screamed 'this is an Amanda Plumber role' to me.
