Home Again
Oct. 2nd, 2005 04:51 pmWe're home. Vermont was wonderful: gorgeous early Fall/late Summer weather, lovely drive through forested mountains (accompanied on the quiet times by Christopher's iPod), and a nice overnight stay at the Hawthorne Suites.
We wandered Church Street, a pedestrian mall closed off to vehicular traffic, line with a variety of stores, both chains and local places. I found a nice insulated French press coffeepot (I've been meaning to get one for a while now). Wandered through Quarterstaff and Earth Prime (the local one-two game store and comic store combo), but didn't find anything unexpected. Christopher found some stuff in Global Pathways (a jeweler and lapidary with a big selection of crystals and stones), as he does every time we visit, and we both found books at Spirit Dancer nearby. Got cones at Ben & Jerry's (wouldn't be Vermont without 'em) and walked down by the lakefront.
After a quick disco-nap, we had a nice dinner, followed by an evening at 135 Pearl, the local "alternative" dive. Not much to look at, but we had fun dancing. We also met this really nice guy named Adam. He came over to Christopher and asked his name and, when he said "Chris," he replied, "Are you Chris Penczak?" Seems Adam had read several of Christopher's books and was surprised to run into him in a Burlington club! Christopher, of course, wasted no time in pitching Between the Worlds to him...
Slept in, had breakfast at a local diner we like, followed by another pleasant drive home. All in all, a very nice weekend and another great idea from my husband.
