26 year-old British actor Matt Smith will be the 11th Doctor in 2010.

David Tennant is slated to film four one-hour Doctor Who specials this year before handing the Time Lord title over to the youngest actor yet to play the role.

I'm looking forward to Steven Moffat's production of the show, as he's written some of my favorite episodes of the new series.

I'll miss Tennant, but the new guy definitely has that "Doctor feel" about him. :)

The Doctors seem to be getting younger and younger. A couple of more regenerations, and we'll have a teen Doctor. I'm very dubious of this trend.

I'm still holding out for Joanna Lumley.

Despite him being so much younger.. I actually get the impression (just from watching him talk) that we'll see more of a Patrick Troughton era Doctor. Plus I have high hopes with Moffatt at the reigns.

tennant is such a powerful presence - any actor is going to have their work cut out for them. I just hope the change in writers doesn't take the show down a dark path.

but he does have that "docotor" look about his eyes.

I quite agree, Tennant is a tough act to follow. In some regards, giving him an "off season" might help ease the transition a bit. Still, if Davidson could follow Tom Baker, then Matt Smith can pull this off. I'm interested to see what he'll do with the role. One of the things I really liked about Tennant's performance is how he borrowed mannerisms from previous Doctors (his drawn out "Well..." is so very Tom Baker, for example) but still made the part uniquely his own.
