Let it snow, let it snow...
Jan. 5th, 2006 11:50 amSo the boiler is fixed finally (knock wood). Yesterday, after they'd finally finished installing the thing, it didn't seem to be warming up. The baseboards were cold. Checked the switches and they were on. Boiler seemed to be working. We even had hot water from the faucets. Called and got the answering service and a guy came out to look at it. Turns out they didn't open the valves they needed to. He did that and the heat kicked on immediately.
Then this morning (after a toasty warm night upstairs), we come downstairs to find it's still cold down there and the heat is a good 10 degrees below where the thermostat is set. The baseboards are warm upstairs and cold downstairs. Time to call the plumber again to come and take a look at the thing. Apparently this time there's a loose wire. The guy fixes it and now the heat works both upstairs and downstairs.
For the final topper, Christopher starts some laundry, only to find the washing machine won't work. Apparently, it was unplugged at some point during all the installation/re-installation and nobody plugged it back in. That one we were at least able to discover and fix ourselves. Please, gods, let that be it.
Sad thing is, although our old furance was old and outdated, we didn't have near this much hassle with it at once.
We were going to help our friend David with moving some furniture to settle into his new place, but it's snowing out and the roads are really slick, so we're staying indoors and enjoying the new heat instead.
