Today was one of those catch-up days of running around trying to get a variety of things done. There was getting back to the gym, making breakfast, answering e-mails, making lunch, doing laundry, answering more e-mail and online forum questions, talking on the phone, grocery shopping, making dinner, dashing off to an Outright youth group meeting (only to cancel it when no youths showed up), coming home, answering more e-mail (see a pattern here?) and trying to fit a bit more work in before calling it a night with a little TV.

Speaking of TV, I'm having fun with some new (or sort of new) programs of late:

I got Christopher the first season of Veronica Mars on DVD for his birthday, primarily on the recommendation of [livejournal.com profile] princeofcairo and thus far the show does not disappoint (we're five episodes in, having just started the second disc). It's smartly-written, kind of like Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the supernatural elements replaced with film noir and Bonfire of the Vanities. It's already becoming clear that it's not just formula drama, with some interesting twists and character turns. We're carefully rationing the episodes, otherwise we'll fly through them far too fast. I can tell the wait for the second season on DVD will be a long one.

My favorite new show is the new series of Doctor Who. I was a huge fan of the original series from the time I was a kid (no surprise there) and the new show brings back all my affection for it with a new, hipper sensibility updating it. I've enjoyed every single episode I've seen so far and I'm very glad the show has been successful enough to get renewed. I was sorry to see Christopher Eccelson leave, but David Tennant is just as good, if not better, in my opinion. I look forward to it each week and I want to get the first season on DVD (hopefully with all the extras, "Tardisodes," and "Dr. Who Confidential" episodes). It's already on my Amazon Wishlist.

Did you by chance ever watch Blake's 7, Logan's Run or Space 1999?

All of the above (although I didn't see Blake's 7 until it was aired in the U.S. in the late 80s) plus shows like the Tomorrow People (also out now on DVD, yay!), Six-Million Dollar Man, Star Trek (of course! My Dad raised me on it and took me to my first Trek convention when I was like nine), Voyagers! and The Phoenix (anyone remember those?), and Wonder Woman (what young gay boy didn't want to grow up to be Linda Carter?)
