Superman Returns
Jul. 12th, 2006 09:00 amGot around to seeing Superman Returns the other day and overall it's a decent, if not great film. John Williams' original score remains stirring. Brandon Routh is eerily like Christopher Reeve, while bringing his own quality to the role. Kevin Spacey does a great Lex Luthor, although I wish he'd had the opportunity to play the modern Luthor-as-corporate-tycoon rather than a version of Gene Hackman's character (the "Gods fly around in little red capes and don't share their power" line was a hint of what the somewhat under-used Spacey could have done with the part). Some of the sequences are a bit too long and the plot overall felt a bit thin. While I'm glad Bryan Singer got to do a dream-project, I still would have rather seen a good X-Men 3 instead.
