Heroes: "Five Years Gone"
May. 1st, 2007 10:50 amAwesome episode with a vibe very much like the “Days of Future Past” storyline in X-Men. The Syler-switch genuinely caught me off-guard and finally made me consider Syler more than just a crazy killer, he graduated to true “super-villain” status. I was disappointed the Syler/Peter face-off was cut short (as in the previous episode) but anticipate a real throw-down before the end of the season. Oh, and future-Hiro totally kicks ass!
We still don’t have a definitive answer of the “can you change destiny/history?” question, but it’s starting to look like you can, or at least that future-Hiro has by saving Claire. Of course, there’s always the predestination paradox (that all changes to the timeline have “already happened” and are also predestined), and Isaac’s artwork suggests he has somehow foreseen the “other” future where changes in our present haven’t yet “happened” from the perspective of the “Five Years Gone” future.
This episode also did point-out a lack of vocabulary in the show. While a lot of people call the people with powers “Heroes,” there’s no name for them in the conext of the show. I’m surprised that years after they became publicly known there isn’t some common term or nickname (specials, supers, mutants, whatever).

Heroes is the shizzle.

All in all, a nifty episode. Three more to go!
