Now that an Iowa district court ruled Thursday that same-sex couples can marry.

Depending on how the appeals process goes, this could be a hot issue in Iowa in the Fall.

It's always hard to predict what will or won't fly. I could definitely see it being an issue, but it could also be viewed as a smoke screen.

Although since both parties (in Iowa at least) are fairly uniform on one side or another of the issue, there's not going to be much incentive for any candidate to buck their partisan CW. In other words, no Democrat is going to win any Democratic caucus votes by opposing same-sex marriage, and no Republican is going to lose any Iowa caucus votes likewise. (Although since Romney is probably a mortal lock in Iowa, and he's been on both sides of the issue, maybe he could debate himself.)

I was floored when I heard this. I'm from Iowa (originally) and this is the last thing I expected from them.
