According to the Daily News, Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, and actress in roles such as Nurse Christine Chapel and Lwaxana Troi, as well as the omnipresent “Federation Computer Voice,” has passed away of leukemia at the age of 76.
The “first lady of Star Trek” always struck me as a class act. It is not often remembered that she played the first officer of the Enterprise (known only as “Number One”) in the pilot of the series, known for its utopian view of the future. But I—like many—loved her “Auntie Mame of the Galaxy” portrayal of Lwaxana in Next Generation and later series.
Safe journey, Majel – give Gene our regards in the Final Frontier.
