This survey of religion in the U.S. notes:

The fastest growing religion (in terms of percentage) is Wicca. Numbers of adherents went from 8,000 in 1990 to 134,000 in 2001. Their numbers of adherents are doubling about every 30 months.

So in another 10 years, the number of Wiccans or pagans (the survey doesn't distinguish) might top two million or so. The survey also notes that data-gathering on the pagan population is notoriously inaccurate, but probably biased toward being too low.

Huh, perhaps the leftist queer pagan agenda is working after all...

Well, I've been sort of pondering it. Didn't think I was the only one, either. :)

You know, since they're going to suspect of us having one, we might as well get around to putting one together.

Everyone knows that the real conspiracies are always completely hushed up, so they'd finally fucking shut up about it. ;)

I have to believe that whatever the situation now, Wiccans/pagans must have been very undercounted in 1990 to only have had 8,000 on the books. Which knocks a hole in that "fastest-growing" statistic, but what can you do?

I have to believe that the 8,000 figure is impossibly low. Because there are 1,000 at Pagan Spirit Gathering alone. And I just can't believe that it draws 1/8th of all pagans in the country.

Yeah it's difficult to tell who in the stats is a new pagan and who has just come out of the broom closet and decided to be counted, to say nothing of the number of pagans who are still in that closet, at least so far as things like surveys are concerned.

You expect most of them to answer any surveys?
Heck there is still a large population (probably the core of the British Traditionalist) that won't go to pagan gatherings and so are unlikely to be counted even on surveys amongst the pagans.
