"[President Bush's] position is that he thinks people ought to have the freedom to lead their private lives," White House spokesman Tony Snow said. "He also does not believe that that means that you have to redefine the institution of marriage. He believes the institution of marriage is between a man and a woman."

Apparently "freedom to lead their private lives" means "in the closet and out of the sight of decent, God-fearing folk, as it was meant to be." Our heroic President, riding to the rescue of marraige to protect it from having perverts "redefine" it, which is, of course, in no way a midterm election-year campaign stunt to shore up the President's flagging approval ratings with his bigotted extreme right-wing supporters and mobilize them to keep the Republicans in power.

Because, as we all know, my having the legal right to share property, visit my partner in the hospital, make critical medical decisions, file taxes jointly, and in general share our lives in all the numerous legal ways that straight married couples take for granted as their God-given right, is a very serious issue, a greater threat to our nation than war, global pandemic, a struggling economy, terrorism, or the arrival of hurricane season.

President Bush can kiss my queer ass. I'm sick and tired of being his target of opportunity.

Amen to that.

Did you see the campaign against this? [Link here.] It's to send postcards to our representatives to oppose the Federal Marriage Amendment.

This is a sign of weakness. he religious Conservatives only have serious power in one situation: When there are Republicans in power who are weak enough to need their help. And then they have a lot of power indeed. This is Bush's appeal to them, and its a very lame appeal. Is gay marriage really that big of a deal to these Christians? They'd rather go after premaritial sex, divorce, or woman's lib, but they can't so they go after the smaller voting bloc. And I mean, this thing won't even pass. Its pathetic.

But yeah, I think all this is generating some nasty feelings towards gay folks, and I'm sorry that this is our fucking country.

That's what I like to here, brother! Now, if only we (as a demographic) can make sure we put him AND his cronies in both the house and the senate out on their collective asses, then we can spend the next bloody decade fixing everything he's gone out of his way to break.
