So I've finally gotten 'round to reading George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series. I borrowed A Game of Thrones from the library, to see if I'd like it (I was burned on recommendations of Jordan's Wheel of Time books, which were not particularly to my taste). I plowed through the first book and immediately went out and bought it and the second. Damn, Martin can write. I'm about a third of the way through A Clash of Kings and enjoying it immensely. It's been a long while since I've enjoyed just sitting and reading so much, as it's often the last thing I want to do when I get done with work.

Actually, now that I think of it, I'm going to add the other books to my Amazon wishlist. As the Starks might say, "Winter is coming" and the holidays are just around the corner.

Great series. I'm now eagerly awaiting Dance of Dragons. :)

I have A Game of Thrones on my "to read" shelf. I expect I'll be diving into it in a few days.

Good man. I'd hoped that you'd hunt up a copy for yourself and get hooked. :D

I'm, as you may guess, a bit biased about the series, but it is truly excellent. I thought that long before the possibility of licensing it for an RPG ever became an idea and loved it more and more as we worked on the game. It is an incredibly well put together series and Martin is an excellent word-smith.

Yeah, at some point I'm probably going to have to pick up the RPG book, but not yet, cuz I don't want any spoilers.

Let me know if you have any trouble finding a copy, because I have some. :)

I might take you up on this, assuming I allow myself to ever acquire another RPG book...

Understandable, since one of your shelves collapsed under the combined weight. AGoT RPG is not a light book: it's a pretty hefty hardback. You could do serious damage should you ever wield it as a weapon. :)

I'm taking A Feast for Crows with me to read in Oslo. It's been sitting on the bookshelf for nearly a year now, and I just haven't had time to read it.

It took me a little while to get finished with A Game of Thrones. If I'm really into the books, I can put an 800-pager away inside a week. I'm not sure what it was about the book but it took a while to finish.

By the end, however I was jonesing for the next. I finished A Feast For Crows about a month after I finished A.G.O.T.

Incredible books.

Tyrion is by FAR my favorite character, and Jon Snow, and Arya.. Ok better stop before I think of more cool characters.. :)
