Equip My D&D Character!
Jul. 25th, 2009 07:54 amSo the Reverend Dr. Evil (Rob Schwalb) is running an epic-level D&D 4e game for us at GenCon. Chris Pramas (busy company president that he is) out-sourced the creation of his 21st level character for the game. I didn’t have any trouble coming up with a character: I quickly settled on a kalashtar invoker, a champion of the Path of Light (which has gotten me into 4e Eberron in a big way). However, I could use some outside aid when it comes to setting my character up with the right gear. So I’m following Chris’ example and turning to the experts who read my blog on LiveJournal and Facebook.
The specifications are for level 22, 21, and 20 magic items and 225,000 gp worth of equipment. My character is a 21st level kalashtar invoker/lightwalker/demigod (1st level of his epic destiny) with the Covenant of Preservation build. Anything from the official Wizards D&D books is fair game. Help me bling him out with the right equipment list!

The weapon of choice should naturally have attack/damage bonuses as high as you can get away with, as well as an ability that fills a hole the character doesn't have (like ambidexterity, perhaps) or beefs up a "weak" attribute. Some kind of bag of holding is practically a requirement, as is a class-related item. Other than that: defense, defense, defense! :)

Date: 2009-07-25 05:35 pm (UTC)You need a staff of distant shielding +5 as your 22nd level item. This works well with your Preservation covenant, and the daily (choose an ally, next enemy to attack the ally takes 20 radiant damage) is pretty cool.
For your 21st level, try a healer's sash. You get to load it up with charges by expending healing surges, and then spend a charge to give healing to an ally within 5 squares as an immediate reaction to them getting hurt, which doesn't keep you from doing your controller thing.
Finally, it would be helpful to have good armor, so try some Dawn Warrior armor (cloth, probably). It's +4 AC but it's also resist 10 acid, 10 cold, 10 fire, and 10 lightning. And it has a nice Daily power that deals a lot of radiant damage to an enemy that hits you, so win win.

Level 21: Ioun Stone of Adaptation - Ok, so I was inspired by
Level 22: Rod of the Bloodthorn +5 - Hopefully your foes will be spending a lot of time bloodies so something that consistently hits them harder is a bonus.. plus who couldn't use an extra healing surge? (Adventurer's Vault)
